If anyone asked you what a book or a game was, chances are that you could answer, without a problem. How about if someone asked you what a Game Book was? Surprisingly, many don’t have a clue, and are surprised the two words even come together. If you are one, then prepare to feel amazed to learn that the term GameBook has been around since the 80’s. Yes that’s right, from the good old days. Well that might have been the 70’s but you get the idea.
The point is – many forms of these books have been published throughout the years, though many people haven’t even read one.

GameBooks are a cool concept, no doubt about it.
The question might linger though, as to why Multi-Option reading hasn’t dominated the market. Well first of all, putting decisions into a book is kind of complicated. Another reason is that publishers don’t like this sort of stuff, for whatever reason they may have, but it’s like asking them to remove their eyes from their heads, just to read a few pages. If you are an Independant Writer with some experience in Publishing, then you already know that this is not an exaggeration.
What happens though when you put a real sci-fi book into a real 3D game? Is it even possible? Surprisingly enough, there’s one GameBook that did it. It’s called Realms Of Forgotten Worlds, and it’s packed with 71 decisions, 234 chapters, and 70 tragic endings. Well, that might sound like a multi-option story on steroids, but there’s more to it than that. In the game version of this book, there is a really huge 3D Gaming Environment to go get lost in as well!

That’s right, there are clouds, high tech looking hallways, rooms, enemies, and many other obstacles. Of course there’s the Interactive PDF to read as well, if you don’t like getting blown up, but if you do, then the Game Version is the way to go. It’s basically a game that you have to read through, which is really good news for us Gamers, who don’t have that much time for books.
Ok, we have a game then, where the reader can decide and all that, but what really makes this GameBook special?
Well, apart from it being really heavy in it’s physical form, it comes with a really big map, to help you along your way.
The map turns out to be really handy while reading through the story, just because the decisions alone create an atmosphere, where you can actually feel the adventure developing and getting complex. You can go so many ways, and you may find yourself re-reading different parts, just to reach a different storyline. There are so many parts of this story, but you just have to figure out how to get there.
So Are GameBooks For Kids Or Adults?
Up until this point, GameBooks have been for mostly for kids. We have Choose Your Own Adventure books for example, that has targeted kids for years, which in reality isn’t such a bad thing. Some years ago though, people were asking if someone could come up with something for adults as well. Realms Of Forgotten Worlds was that answer, for those eagerly waiting sci-fi fans, though it did take some time to get out. Sorry it took so long.
Starting in December of 2012, it took an epic 6 and a half years to finish, and another year on top of that, just to get the Game Version up to par. Depite it taking so long to get out, the criticism has been very light, and the general acceptance has been very good.
All in all, adults are going to love this sci-fi adventure.
