Why It’s So Cool…
Well have you ever had a really good question, and just got really bad answers? Sure you have – it’s happened to us all. I used to have all kinds of questions as a kid, but there weren’t any search engines to search for stuff like nowadays. It was just my parents or the limited information inside of an old encyclopedia collection.
On Quora you can ask with a Username, or as I understand, you can ask stuff Anonymously. That’s a real important detail since there could be a lot of things a young adult could be worried about. In my case as a kid, I really wasn’t asking my parents a whole lot, so I was between a rock and a hard spot.

Well, I first discovered Quora on 15Sept17 when I came across a very unusual question. It was just one of those that I couldn’t help but try and answer, due to its simplicity. It was so irresistable that I went through the whole process of registering to make an account there. After that day I found a random question here and there, which reminded me that I still had an account on a place called Quora.
I went back at it in the month of Feburary 2019, after finding a few random questions during a search, which reminded me that I had an account for that kind of stuff. I still didn’t really know what it was all about. Well, I knew that it was about answering questions, but I had no idea just how many people were in this place, or how useful my answers could be.
It’s a miracle a Moderator didn’t catch the response above, since they do that once in a while. Right now I can say that I appreciate their work, filtering out all of the smarta** responses like this. In this moment my answers are 100% better than the one above, since I have a whole different concept of what this is all about. This site actually helps people, and that’s a very good thing.
In this moment, I am fully aware that the above answer would have probably been taken down from public view, only minutes after posting it. When I answered it though, I didn’t even have a picture of myself, so maybe that’s the reason they left me alone. Or maybe it was because it was so simple, that a moderator just left it there. Whatever the reason, it remains my very first historic Quora answer. (Not my best)

Present Day Use Of Quora
At the moment I am taking Quora a whole lot more seriously. I finally realized that there are real people asking real questions, who also have real problems. The questions are all mixed up though, and range from the super serious, to the ones that are just looking for some humor, to pass the time.
If questions are directed straight to me, I try to answer, even if I can’t come up with anything good. If a moderator doesn’t like my comment, then I’m asked to rewrite it, even though I think they are exaggerating sometimes.
What will happen if your mother becomes a Quora moderator?
If you want to give your answering abilities a try, this question is still open. It would be really funny to see all the replies from people reading this post.. lol
Mysteriously moderator requests just kind of disappear, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. I really was looking for a screenshot though to give an example.
Being moderated is probably the only part that I don’t like about the whole process, since I’m not really trying to get that bad type of attention.
I really try to give hard honest answers, but the fact that people ask about sci-fi topics, make it a bit complicated. I’m pretty convinced that this is the real reason why answers get shot down sometimes, because they involve controversial topics, even though they are imaginary. Talking about a certain country North West of the U.S. or about death will get a moderator’s attention really fast.
(Sorry Moderators.. I know most of you are just doing your job).
Quora is still better than FaceB. though, and just in case you’re wondering- I have had my FaceB. account blocked, again. That’s why you can’t find the big F icon anywhere. Of course there was no explaination as to why I was blocked.
So What’s Fun About Quora?
You get to meet a lot of different people, all eager to give you their opionion or to present hard facts. All of that just to help you out. If that isn’t cool, I don’t know what is.
Just need to get past the moderators first.. lol
Sorry. Couldn’t resist. It might seem as if I’m a bit critical with Quora, but in reality it’s not like that at all. Sometimes they do block something that is perfectly legit, but other times they are just doing their job.
It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it.
What’s fun is the fact that you get to select your field of expertise. I chose psychology, sci-fi, writing, and a few more. Giving good solid answers gets you more followers, so you could imagine what would happen if you only gave bad responses.
Really knowing what you’re talking about is very important, and people will know the difference.
Another thing is that if people like your answer, they’ll upvote it. That’s an amazing feature.
I sometimes get some really cool comments from people who really found my answers useful, which is reslly great. That’s always motivation to keep going and to try to answer better the next time around.
You Get A Status Of How You’re Doing
I think this feature is super cool, and maybe the reason I continue doing this. The views are good to know about, but what I really like is seeing how many upvotes I have. (I don’t think I have any Downvotes) That’s bascally telling you how many people valued what you said. Doesn’t really look like a lot, but that’s actually how many people I’ve helped out, in one way or another.
Getting good numbers all depends on how much you put into it. A simple answer will probably not get upvoted, but something you personally relate to and answer with all your heart, probably will.
Try not to be super serious all the time, and just be yourself. Try not to be too ridiculous though, since you might end up in the moderator spotlight.
So.. What is my personal evaluation of Quora?
Well, first of all, this is something I really wish I would have had as a kid. With so many questions and so little resources, I’m certain I could have put a place like Quora to good use.
With that said, I’ll give it a 9.5 rating. Unfortunately I can’t go all the way with a 10, just because of harder type moderators I come across once in a while. Quora is a really great place to help people out though, so I hope certain moderators can get some extra training.
Oh right. You might be able to make some money off of Quora as well. This isn’t a feature that I have tested yet, but I would be very interested in anyone who has had any success.
